Hydroplane Rigged as a Tall Ship

From Michael and Randy,
After corresponding for some time regarding pinewood derby topics, Awana, etc., we decided to offer Michael's writings on the Raingutter Regatta to parents and kids looking for assistance in this exciting boat competition.
Our desire is that by using this booklet, not only will you create a competitive boat, but that you will more thoroughly enjoy the boat building process. Winning a trophy is great, but the real point of the Raingutter Regatta is building and racing a boat with someone you care about.
Best wishes in your race, and may God bless you and your family.
Michael and Randy
Michael Lastufka, Author
Michael Lastufka enjoys exploring new and better ways to do things. The
Awana club attended by his daughters inspired many opportunities to
improvise competitive advantages via a little engineering. The Lastufka Labs website, is one of the ways his family
shares what they are learning about various hobbies and club activities.
Michael now serves as the Event Director of the club and has taught this
discipline through Awana Leadership Conferences.
Working through college as a computer lab consultant, Michael graduated from
the UCLA physics department in 1981. Masters studies in pure mathematics
gave way to ten years of software engineering for the Advanced Development
Company of Lockheed, an international aerospace company. After two years
creating and using a software and test generator at Litton Data Systems he
and his wife sought support to become missionaries with Wycliffe Bible
Translators. Today, Michael helps Wycliffe create software for Bible
translation at the International Linguistics Center in Dallas, Texas.
Randy Davis, Web Site Owner
Randy enjoys developing plans for pinewood derby cars, and developing websites. In 1999, he and his wife introduced Maximum Velocity!, offering plans and supplies for building pinewood derby cars. He also developed and supports the non-commercial pinewood derby site entitled Pinewood Derby Car Building Tips. Randy contributes his pinewood derby expertise at his church by leading the annual pinewod derby race.
Randy graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1981 with a BS in Computer Science. He earned an MBA degree in 1995 from Western Internation University. After working for Honeywell for nineteen years, and Plant Automation Services in Houston, Texas for two years, Randy now owns and operates Maximum Velocity, Inc. in Peoria, Arizona.
